Requirements to Become an LPC Supervisor
The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) administers the LPC-S designation. To qualify, you must meet all of the following:

| Active LPC License | Must hold a full, unrestricted LPC license in Texas — not an LPC-Associate |
| Supervisor Training | Minimum 40 hours from a BHEC-approved training provider |
| Application to BHEC | Submit application, proof of training, and applicable fee via the BHEC portal |
| Clean Disciplinary Record | Your LPC license must not be under current disciplinary action |
Requirements for LPC Associates Being Supervised
LPC Associates must complete supervised experience under an LPC-S before applying for full LPC licensure. Here’s the breakdown:

Supervision Format Requirements
- A minimum of one hour of individual supervision per week is required
- Group supervision may supplement but not replace individual sessions
- Telehealth supervision is permitted by BHEC
- All supervision must be documented with a signed supervisory agreement
Supervisor Training Requirements (40 Hours)
The required 40-hour BHEC-approved training must cover specific competency areas including:
- Theoretical models of supervision
- The supervisory relationship and supervisee development
- Ethics and legal responsibilities in supervision
- Multicultural and diversity considerations
- Assessment of supervisee competence
- Documentation and record-keeping
