What’s covered

40 hours across 8 modules — everything required by BHEC

The course is structured in eight modules, each covering a required domain under Texas Administrative Code. You’ll work through supervision frameworks and models, the supervisory relationship, ethical and legal responsibilities, diversity and multicultural competency, documentation and record-keeping standards, board rules and gatekeeping responsibilities, and a capstone applied practicum component.

Each module includes reading materials, real-world case studies with a multicultural and ethical focus, end-of-module quizzes, and reflection assignments. Supervisor tools — including contract templates, evaluation forms, and remediation plan documents — are included as downloadable resources. Texas LPC rules updated through March 2025 and required BHEC forms are embedded throughout.

A certificate of completion is issued upon successful finish of all modules and assessments. You have 90 days from enrollment to complete the course. The certificate is submitted directly to BHEC as part of your LPC-Supervisor application. Review the full BHEC LPC requirements before applying.

Common questions

Texas LPC Supervisor training — your questions answered

Do I need to be a Texas LPC for 5 years before taking this course?

Yes — BHEC requires that applicants for LPC-Supervisor designation have held an unrestricted Texas LPC license for a minimum of five years. However, you can take the 40-hour training course before reaching the five-year mark so the certificate is ready when you become eligible. The certificate does not expire.

Does this course count toward my annual LPC CE renewal hours?

No — the 40-hour supervisor training is a separate requirement from your biennial CE renewal. It does not satisfy the continuing education hours required for LPC license renewal. For CE renewal hours, see our Texas CE renewal bundle or individual CE courses.

Is there an LPC-Supervisor exam in Texas?

No — Texas does not require a separate exam for LPC-Supervisor designation. The 40-hour training course and a completed application submitted to BHEC are the primary requirements, along with verification of your five years of unrestricted LPC licensure. Review the complete application requirements at BHEC.texas.gov.

How long does the application take after I submit the certificate?

BHEC processing times vary but typically range from 4–8 weeks for supervisor designation applications once all materials are received. Completing the training course and having your certificate ready before you apply removes the most common delay in the process. For current processing timelines, contact BHEC directly at bhec.texas.gov/contact-us.

Do you also offer the LPC Supervisor renewal CEUs I need each renewal cycle?

Yes. In addition to the initial 40-hour training, we offer a 6-hour LPC-S supervisor renewal CE course ($39.99) and a 24-hour Texas LPC Supervisor renewal bundle ($109) that satisfies the full biennial renewal for LPC-Supervisors.
