What referring professionals say about working with us
The best referral relationships are built on confidence — confidence that your client will be seen quickly, matched appropriately, and treated by a clinician who communicates back. Here is how three recent referral scenarios played out.
Primary care physician → Panic disorder
A family practice physician in Frisco referred a 38-year-old patient who had been presenting with chest pain and shortness of breath that cardiac workup had ruled out as physical. The physician suspected panic disorder and anxiety but did not have capacity for behavioral health management in his practice. After submitting the referral through our portal, the patient was scheduled within three days with an anxiety specialist trained in CBT and interoceptive exposure. With the patient’s written consent, we sent a brief treatment summary to the referring physician at the 90-day mark. The physician told us: “This is exactly what I needed — I knew she was in good hands, and I got enough feedback to close the loop on my end.”
School counselor → Struggling adolescent
A high school counselor in McKinney reached out about a 16-year-old student who was showing signs of depression, falling grades, and increasing social withdrawal. The student had refused to engage with the school counselor directly but the counselor felt the student needed more clinical support than the school setting could provide. We worked with the family to conduct a brief intake call, matched the teen with an adolescent specialist, and — at the family’s request — maintained communication with the school counselor regarding attendance accommodations and academic support. The counselor noted: “Having a practice that actually calls back and coordinates makes a real difference for the students we refer.”
Family law attorney → Court-ordered anger management
A family law attorney in Plano needed a court-accepted anger management program for a client as part of a custody modification agreement. The attorney required that the certificate specifically document hours, format, and facilitator credentials for submission to the court. We enrolled the client in our 8-hour anger management program, completed the course documentation to the court’s specifications, and provided the attorney with the certificate and a program description letter within 24 hours of completion. The attorney remarked: “The documentation was clean and complete. I’ve had programs send certificates that courts reject — yours went straight through.”

Referring professionals — your questions answered
What clinical specialties does MindLift offer for referred clients?
MindLift Alliance clinicians specialize in individual therapy for adults, adolescents, and children; couples counseling using the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy; trauma therapy including EMDR and TF-CBT; anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety, panic disorder, and social anxiety; mood disorders including major depression and bipolar disorder; and group therapy for depression, grief, and anxiety. We also serve bilingual (English/Mandarin) clients and offer culturally specific services for Chinese-American individuals and families. For a full picture, see our services overview.
What do you need from me to make a referral?
You can submit a referral through our online referral portal or by calling (972) 855-8183. We ask for the client’s name, contact information, a brief description of the presenting concern, and any relevant context about urgency or special circumstances (e.g., a court deadline, a bilingual need, or a preference for in-person vs. telehealth). You do not need to complete clinical documentation for the referral itself — we handle our own intake. If you choose to send clinical records or a referral letter, we welcome that context, but it is not required to initiate the referral process.
Do you accept insurance, and how does that affect my referral?
Yes. MindLift Alliance accepts most major insurance plans including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, and several EAP programs. We also offer sliding-scale fees for clients with financial need. Insurance acceptance does not typically affect the referral process — we handle insurance verification and benefits clarification directly with the client before the first appointment. If you are referring a client who has asked specifically about insurance coverage, we encourage them to call us at (972) 855-8183 before enrolling so we can confirm in-network status.
What happens if a referred client needs a higher level of care than outpatient therapy?
If a client presents at intake with needs that exceed outpatient therapy — such as active suicidal ideation requiring crisis intervention, a substance use disorder requiring intensive outpatient or residential treatment, or psychotic symptoms requiring psychiatric management — our intake coordinator will triage appropriately. We will notify the referring professional (with client consent) that the client has been redirected to a higher level of care and provide referrals to appropriate crisis or specialty resources, including the SAMHSA National Helpline and local crisis services. We never simply turn a client away without a warm handoff plan.
Let’s work together for your clients.
