Why This Training Is Different

Built by someone who supervises, for people about to supervise

Most counselors who qualify for supervisor status put it off for a year or more — not because the training is hard, but because the requirements are scattered across board rules, every provider’s course looks identical from the outside, and none of them tell you what happens after you pass.

This course was written inside a working Texas practice by a clinician who supervises LPC-Associates and runs the group they work in. Ethics and Board Rules gets 12 hours, the largest module in the course. Documentation gets its own module. And the forms are in the course, not in a footnote.

Graded, not passive. Seven quizzes at a 75% passing threshold and seven written reflection assignments. You complete this course — you do not leave it running in a tab.

The Full 40 Hours

Complete curriculum — 8 graded modules, 44 lessons

The entire course, module by module, with the hour weighting for each. Most providers will not publish this. We do, because it is the fastest way to see that the 40 hours are real.

The Pathway

How to become an LPC Supervisor in Texas

The 40-hour training is one step in a five-step process. Here is the whole sequence, so you know what sits on either side of the course.

1. Confirm your licensure

You need an active, unrestricted Texas LPC license in good standing and a qualifying period of practice as a fully licensed LPC. Associates are not yet eligible. The Board revises these thresholds, so verify the current figure with BHEC.

2. Complete 40 hours of training

The requirement described in 22 TAC §681.147 — supervision models and methods, the supervisory relationship, ethics and board rules, evaluation and remediation, and documentation. Keep your certificate for the application.

3. Apply to BHEC

Submit your supervisor status application with proof of training and supporting documentation. The Supervisor Status Designation Checklist included after Module 8 lists the items in submission order.

4. Set up your infrastructure

Before your first associate you need a written supervisory agreement, an hours-logging system, a consistent note format, and a remediation plan. This is what most counselors are least prepared for — and it is built into the course.

5. Maintain your designation

Supervisor status is not permanent by default. Texas requires supervision-specific continuing education to maintain it. Our 6-hour LPC-S renewal CE course covers exactly that when your renewal window opens.

Ally Wang, LPC-S — President & Clinical Director, MindLift Alliance Counseling, McKinney, Texas.

Ally Wang is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor practicing in McKinney, where she leads a multi-clinician group practice and actively supervises LPC-Associates. She built this course from the material she uses in her own supervision — the contracts, the note formats, the remediation conversations, and the board paperwork that comes with taking responsibility for another clinician’s development.

Her practice also runs an NBCC-approved continuing education academy for Texas counselors, and the same standards apply here: graded assessments, published hour allocations, and content reviewed against current Texas rules rather than recycled from a national template.

About Texas requirements. This 40-hour training is designed to meet the supervisor training requirement described in 22 TAC §681.147, and its content is aligned with the supervision standards in 22 TAC §681.93. Eligibility to apply for LPC Supervisor status is determined by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council and the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.

MindLift Alliance Academy is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of BHEC or the Board. Completing this course does not by itself grant LPC Supervisor status. You must still submit the required application and documentation, and you should verify current requirements directly with BHEC before applying.

Course content reviewed against the Texas LPC rules updated March 2025.

Questions, answered

LPC supervisor training in Texas — frequently asked questions

Does this course meet the Texas 40-hour supervisor training requirement?

Yes. The course delivers the full 40 hours of supervisor training described in 22 TAC §681.147, and the curriculum is built around the supervision standards in 22 TAC §681.93. The 40 hours are itemized by module on this page so you can see exactly how they are distributed. Completing the training is one requirement among several — you must still meet the Board’s licensure and experience criteria and submit your application to BHEC.

How long do I have to finish, and do I lose access afterward?

The course is fully self-paced — start tonight, stop, and pick back up whenever your schedule allows. There is no countdown clock. You also keep access to the materials after you complete the course, which matters because the contracts, note templates, and forms are documents you will keep returning to once you start supervising.

Who is eligible to become an LPC Supervisor in Texas?

In general you must hold an active Texas LPC license in good standing, have practiced as an LPC for a qualifying period, and complete a 40-hour supervisor training such as this one. The Board sets the exact licensure and experience thresholds and updates them periodically, so confirm the current criteria with BHEC before applying. Module 2 walks through the eligibility pathway, and the Supervisor Status Designation Checklist included after Module 8 lists what to submit and in what order.

Is this course actually graded, or can I click through it?

It is graded. Seven end-of-module quizzes with a 75% passing threshold and seven written reflection assignments, including a supervision-style self-assessment. You cannot skip to the end. That is deliberate — supervisor status carries real gatekeeping and liability responsibilities, and the course is structured so you have genuinely worked through the ethical and documentation material before taking on an associate.

What do I receive besides the training itself?

Four required Texas forms — the Supervisory Agreement Form, Supervision Hours Log, Associate Change Form, and the Texas LPC Rules updated March 2025 — plus five reusable tools: a supervision contract template, remediation plan template, supervision note templates, case conceptualization worksheets, and an LPC-Associate documentation checklist. These are included in the course rather than linked to, and each is walked through in the module where it applies.

How does online training compare to an in-person workshop?

The requirement is 40 hours of supervisor training; it does not have to be delivered in a conference room. An in-person weekend compresses 40 hours into two or three days, while a self-paced course lets you sit with the ethics and documentation material and return to it. It also costs less, since you are not paying for a venue or travel. What you give up is live discussion — which is why this course leans on case studies, sample scripts, and written reflection.

When do I get my certificate?

Your certificate of completion generates automatically as soon as you finish the final module and pass the required assessments. There is no waiting period and no need to email anyone to request it. Download it immediately and include it with your supervisor status application.

Does completing this make me an LPC Supervisor automatically?

No, and be cautious of any provider who implies otherwise. This course satisfies the training component. Supervisor status is granted by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council after you apply and demonstrate that you meet all eligibility requirements. The checklist included after Module 8 walks you through the application steps.

Do you offer group rates for a practice or agency?

Yes. If you are enrolling several clinicians from the same practice, agency, or training program, call (972) 855-8183 or email info@mindliftalliance.com and we will arrange group pricing and coordinate enrollment for your team.

I still need CE hours to renew. Do you offer those too?

Yes. MindLift Alliance Academy also offers the 6-hour LPC-S supervisor renewal CE course for supervisors maintaining their designation, alongside other CE offerings for Texas counselors.
