EAP counseling: employee well-being is good business.

MindLift Alliance partners with EAP providers to deliver confidential, short-term counseling for employees and their families — usually fully covered by the employer at no cost to the employee. Our EAP counseling is available across the Dallas–Fort Worth metro and via secure telehealth statewide.

What is EAP counseling

Professional support — already paid for by your employer.

Employee Assistance Programs are employer-sponsored benefit programs that provide employees and their household members access to confidential counseling, referrals, and resources. SAMHSA’s Workplace Wellness program notes that EAP counseling reduces absenteeism, improves productivity, and supports long-term employee retention.

Unlike regular therapy, EAP counseling requires no deductible, no copay, and no insurance claim — it is a pre-paid benefit that employees frequently leave unused simply because they don’t realize it exists or don’t know how to access it. EAP counseling is completely separate from your health insurance claim history, so using the benefit has no impact on your premiums or future coverage. The typical employee EAP benefit covers 3–12 sessions per presenting issue per year — enough to address most common life challenges or to stabilize a situation before transitioning to longer-term insurance-covered care. If you are not sure whether your employer offers an EAP, check your benefits portal, contact your HR department, or look for a toll-free number on the back of your employee benefits card.

For employers

Partner with MindLift for your team’s mental health

EAP Authorization

We accept referrals from most major EAP providers including Cigna EAP, Aetna EAP, ComPsych, LifeWorks, and others. Call us with your EAP authorization code and provider name — we’ll handle the verification and scheduling process so your employee doesn’t have to navigate the administrative burden while already under stress.

Custom Workshops

We offer workplace mental health workshops on stress management, burnout prevention, psychological safety, and supporting employees with anxiety or depression. Workshops are available in-person for North Texas employers or virtually for distributed teams. Contact us to discuss a custom workshop tailored to your organization’s specific needs.

Full Clinical Services

When EAP sessions are exhausted, we offer a seamless transition to ongoing therapy at standard insurance rates. We ensure continuity of care — the employee stays with the same therapist, using the same goals and treatment plan — so there’s no disruption to the therapeutic relationship at the moment it matters most.

What EAP covers in practice

What employees use EAP counseling for

EAP counseling is far more versatile than most employees realize. The benefit isn’t just for acute mental health crises — it covers the full spectrum of personal and professional challenges that affect performance and well-being. Employees use EAP sessions for work stress and manager conflict, relationship and marital difficulties, parenting challenges and child behavioral concerns, grief and loss, financial stress and major life decisions, and substance use assessment. If it’s affecting your ability to show up at work or at home, EAP counseling can help.

The number of EAP sessions covered varies by employer — typically 3–12 sessions per issue per year. At MindLift, we are transparent about session limits from the start and will help you prioritize what to address in the sessions you have. When the need exceeds the EAP benefit, we’ll discuss your options for continuing care through insurance or self-pay before sessions expire so there’s no gap in support. Common questions

EAP counseling — your questions answered

Will my employer know I’m using the EAP?

No. EAP counseling is strictly confidential. Your employer only receives aggregate, de-identified data about overall program utilization — they never receive information about which employees used the program, what they discussed, or how many sessions they attended. Confidentiality is the foundation of the EAP benefit, and it is protected by the same federal and state privacy laws that apply to all mental health treatment. The only exceptions are the standard legal exceptions (imminent risk of harm, abuse reporting) that apply to all therapy.

How do I start EAP counseling at MindLift?

Call your EAP provider’s toll-free number (usually found on your employee benefits card or HR portal) and request an authorization for counseling. They will give you an authorization code and a session limit. Then call MindLift Alliance at (972) 855-8183 with that code and we’ll take it from there — verifying the authorization, matching you with the right therapist, and scheduling your first appointment, usually within 3–5 business days.

Can my family members use my EAP benefit?

Yes — most EAP programs cover household family members, including spouses and dependent children. The definition of “household member” varies by plan, so it’s worth confirming with your EAP provider. If your spouse or child is struggling, they can use the EAP benefit independently — they call the EAP line, get their own authorization code, and schedule their own sessions. Their use of the benefit is completely separate and confidential from yours.

What happens when my EAP sessions run out?

If ongoing therapy is needed after your EAP sessions are exhausted, we’ll discuss your options before sessions expire — not after. Most of our therapists are paneled with major Texas insurance plans, so in most cases, continuing care is possible at your standard insurance rates. We’ll verify your insurance benefits in advance so you know the cost before making a decision. Sliding-scale self-pay options are also available for clients without insurance coverage.

Your EAP benefit is ready to use. So are we.

Call us with your EAP authorization number and we’ll schedule your first session within days. Most employees leave this benefit unused — don’t be one of them.
