Getting started — Therapy FAQ Texas
How do I book my first appointment?
You can book online through our Client Portal, call (972) 855-8183, or email info@mindliftalliance.com. New clients typically start within one business week.
Do you offer in-person, virtual, or both?
Both. We see clients in person at our McKinney office and virtually across Texas via secure telehealth. You can switch between formats session-to-session.
How do you match me with a clinician?
Our intake team collects a short summary of your goals and preferences, then recommends clinicians whose specialization and style best fit. You’re welcome to request a different match after your first session.
What ages do you treat?
We work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families. See our services for details on age-specific programs.
Insurance & payment
What insurance do you accept?
We’re in-network with most major Texas carriers — see our Insurance & Pay page for the current list. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend verifying your benefits with us before scheduling.
Do you see out-of-network clients?
Yes. We provide a superbill after each session, which many PPO plans partially reimburse. HSA/FSA and self-pay are also accepted.
What if I can't afford therapy?
We have a limited number of sliding-scale slots available. Please reach out so we can discuss options.
Will I get a Good Faith Estimate?
Yes — under the federal No Surprises Act, if you’re uninsured or self-pay we’ll provide a written estimate before services begin.
Telehealth
Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?
For most concerns, yes — research through the American Psychological Association shows telehealth outcomes are comparable to in-person care. Your clinician will help you decide what fits best.
What do I need for a virtual session?
A private space, a stable internet connection, and a phone, tablet, or computer with camera and microphone. We use HIPAA-compliant video.
Can I do telehealth from outside Texas?
Generally no — Texas licensure requires that clients be physically located in Texas at the time of session. Let us know if you’re traveling so we can plan around it.
Court-ordered classes
Will my court accept a MindLift class?
Most Texas courts approve our programs on review, but acceptance is always at the discretion of your referring authority. Please request documentation for your specific court before enrolling.
How do I enroll?
Visit our Court-Ordered Classes page to view the catalog, or call us and we’ll walk you through enrollment.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. Upon completion you’ll receive a certificate with verifiable course hours, suitable for filing with the court.
Are teens eligible?
Yes — we offer programs for adolescents and family-system programs. See Court-Ordered Counseling for Teens.
Teens & families
Do I need my teen's permission to start therapy?
In most cases, Texas law requires parental consent for minors under 16. We explain the process at intake and invite your teen to participate in treatment planning from the start.
Is what my teen says confidential?
Teen sessions are generally confidential, with standard exceptions for safety. We discuss confidentiality boundaries openly at the beginning of treatment so everyone’s on the same page.
Do you offer family therapy?
Yes — see our Family Therapy page. Family-systems work is a core specialty.
MindLift Academy (for clinicians)
Are your CE courses Texas-approved?
Yes — our curriculum is designed to align with BHEC requirements for LPC and LPC Associate renewal. You’re always responsible for verifying your individual renewal status.
Does the LPC Supervisor course meet the 40-hour requirement?
Yes — our 40-Hour LPC Supervisor Training meets the full educational requirement set by the Texas State Board.
Are courses self-paced?
Yes. All Academy courses are online and on-demand, with a certificate issued upon completion.
